A third of businesses threatened with closure due to cash flow problems

A third of small firms faced cash flow problems so severe in the past two years that they almost went under, according to commercial finance provider IGF.

A further 38% of small businesses reported they had faced cash flow problems. Over half of all firms surveyed said the problems were due to late payers. Those worst-hit were businesses in the East of England, with almost half reporting difficulties. A spokesman for IGF said that small firms had to "think creatively" about alternative sources of finance.
