New figures show positive outlook for UK retail and manufacturing
Recent statistics have painted a positive outlook for both the retail and manufacturing sectors, showing an increase in retail sales and higher demand for UK-made goods.
Online spending in July saw the highest annual increase since before the recession. Figures published by the IMRG (Interactive Media in Retail Group) revealed an 18% jump in online spending between July 2009 and 2010. Shoppers spent £5 billion during July, which is the highest spend of any month this year. Meanwhile, the Confederation of British Industry's (CBI's) quarterly Distributive Trades Survey revealed more than half of retailers questioned reported sales increases during the first fortnight of August.
