Libel reform could also create privacy law
The Ministry of Justice has hinted that the Government's planned libel reform could include the introduction of a privacy law, which may be in place by 2012.
Currently, there is no privacy law in the UK, but there is a provision in the European Convention on Human Rights that gives individuals a right to a private life. The clause has been used by various celebrities to block publication of photos in newspapers, which has been criticised by media industry professionals.
