Lending under Government loan scheme drops by nearly a quarter
Lending to small businesses under the Government-backed Enterprise Finance Guarantee (EFG) scheme has dropped by nearly a quarter.
Figures obtained by Aldermore bank show that the amount loaned to small firms dropped from £472 million between April and September 2009, to just £365 million between September 2009 and March 2010. Aldermore claims that the decline is down to the fact that EFG loans are only guaranteed by the Government up to a point, which leaves banks vulnerable if customers default.
