EU proposes harmonising data protection law
The European Commission's (EC's) vice president has proposed that European Union (EU) data protection laws should be harmonised because current practice across the EU's 27 member states is too fragmented.
Viviane Reding has said that data protection laws in each member state should be changed so that they are more similar to each other. Ms Reding added that current data protection laws are not doing their job properly.
