Employers warn of job losses after National Minimum Wage hike
Business representatives have warned of possible job losses because of the planned increase of the National Minimum Wage (NMW).
The Low Pay Commission has announced that the NMW will increase by 13p per hour to £5.93 in October for employees aged over 21. Employees aged between 18 and 20 will see their hourly rate increase by 9p to £4.92 per hour, while 16 and 17 year-olds will get £3.65 per hour. The Association of Convenience Stores (ACS) has said the rise will make it difficult for business owners to maintain staffing levels.
