Use of forced mandatory retirement age soars during recession, says report
The use of forced mandatory retirement by businesses has soared during the recession, according to research by charities Age Concern and Help the Aged.
More than 100,000 people were forced to retire at the age of 65 during 2009, according to the research. The charities suggest that these figures illustrate how many employers have used forced retirement as a "cheap and easy" alternative to redundancy.
