More than one in five employers are unaware of the recently introduced legislation that gives employees the right to request time off for training, research has shown.

More than one in five employers are unaware of the recently introduced legislation that gives employees the right to request time off for training, research has shown. A study by research firm IRS reveals that just over 20% of employers are not familiar with the legislation. From 6 April 2010, employees with at least 26 weeks' continuous service can request time off for study or training to improve their effectiveness in the business. The legislation initially applies to firms with more than 250 staff, and extends to small businesses from April 2011.
