Hospitality industry due £20m refund in music fees after High Court ruling

The High Court has rejected an appeal by music licensing organisation PPL (Phonographic Performance Limited) relating to the repayment of overpaid licence fees by thousands of small hospitality businesses.

The decision means that pubs, hotels and restaurants will now be able to apply for up to £20 million worth of refunds on licence fees paid since 2005. The British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) is now developing a system to make it easier for business owners to reclaim what they are owed.
