Cafés, pubs, hotels and other businesses that offer wireless Internet access will not be exempt from measures in the Digital Economy Bill, which are designed to tackle copyright infringement. The Government has published guidance on the Digital Economy Bill, which states that Internet subscribers, such as a café, will be liable for any copyright-infringing activity of customers, for example, those who illegally download music. An Internet law expert has said that this could have major implications for firms offering Wi-Fi access.
