Government proposes employers' liability insurance fund
The Government is considering the introduction of a central employers' liability insurance fund, which will pay workers compensation if they contract an industrial disease or work-related illness if their firm is not insured.
The cash for the fund would be found by adding small premiums to all other employers' liability insurance policies. Currently, if a worker develops a work-related illness and the employer has broken the law and not taken out a compulsory employers' liability insurance policy, they receive no compensation.
