£700 million lending boost for small firms

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has announced it will provide £700 million to 3,000 small businesses through the UK's banks that are participating in the scheme.

The Government announced in the Pre-Budget Report 2008 that there would be up to £4 billion worth of EIB finance provided between 2008 and 2011. Banks involved in the scheme include Bank of Scotland, Barclays, Lloyds TSB and Santander UK.
