New powers in force to permit use of imperial measurements
Legislation has come into force that allows businesses to use both imperial and metric units of measurements.
The Units of Measurement Regulations 2009 and the Weights and Measures (Metrication Amendment) Regulations 2009 came into force on 1 January 2010 and contain provisions that exempt UK firms from having to produce separate metric and imperial labels. The Regulations also state that the UK will be able to decide on the use of imperial and metric measurements in the future.
