National Insurance increase will affect self-employed most
Self-employed people earning more than £17,500 will pay more National Insurance (NI) under the Chancellor's PBR measures to increase NI, despite his announcement that anyone earning less than £20,000 will not be affected by the increase.
A report in The Daily Telegraph highlights that some self-employed people will pay an extra £16 a year. The Treasury confirmed this, and a spokesperson told the newspaper that "it's very clear that the Chancellor was talking about people in employment" when he announced the measure.
