EU accepts proposal for longer unpaid parental leave

The Council of the European Union has accepted proposals to extend unpaid parental leave from three to four months.

The council agreed to extend the right for each parent to take up to four months per child by 2012. However, employment experts have predicted this is unlikely to have a significant impact on employers, as many workers are reluctant to take so much time off with no pay.
