Restaurants must inform customers about service charges, says BHA

Restaurant owners must tell customers how service charges are distributed, the British Hospitality Association (BHA) has recommended.

A BHA spokesperson's comments come as survey results show that many diners are put off by 'optional' service charges automatically being added to their bill. Miles Quest, spokesperson for the BHA, told BAD News that imposing a service charge is the restaurant's decision but diners must be told how the charge is distributed among staff.
