Government skills strategy shuts out employers, says CIPD

The Government's 'Skills for Growth' White Paper has come in for criticism from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) for giving too much power to quangos and local authorities while cutting the number of employer-led Sector Skills Councils.

The CIPD has said the organisations tasked with implementing skills strategies have virtually no employer input. Tom Richmond, skills adviser for the CIPD, said: "Our concern is that with every major announcement, the role of leaders and managers within companies is being weakened as quangos and civil servants take on alarming levels of responsibility in terms of identifying skills needs."
