Firms criticise card payment security standard
Retailers have criticised plans to make them pay fees as part of a compliance scheme for a payment card security standard that protects consumers from fraud.
Under the scheme, run by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI SSC), retailers and other businesses that accept card payments must provide proof of compliance with the scheme or risk a fine. Retailers say they are worried about banks passing on the cost of compliance in the form of increased banking fees and extra charges.
