Government launches consultation on paternity leave proposals
The Government has launched a consultation on its proposals to extend paternity leave and pay to allow fathers to take up to 26 weeks off after the birth of their child.
Men would be able to take the proposed entitlement during the second six months of the child's life, which the Government says will provide parents with more flexibility on child care responsibilities. It proposes that the legislation will come into force by April 2010. The consultation is open to all employers and employees and will close on 20 November 2009.
