Companies Act comes into force
The remaining provisions of the Companies Act 2006 came into force on 1 October 2009, which the Government claims will "simplify and strengthen" the way British firms operate.
Provisions of the Act include new rules on directors and their duties, shareholder meetings and rules on the formation of a new company.
