Brown announces small business internship scheme
Prime Minister Gordon Brown has announced the Government will introduce 10,000 internship places in small businesses for recent graduates from university.
The initiative has been developed in partnership with the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) and will be funded through the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and the graduates' universities, who will contribute £100 per week for paying the graduate intern, while the small business makes up the rest. John Wright, chairman of the FSB, said that small firms will benefit from the skills of graduates, who they "traditionally find harder to recruit".
