Small firms' ignorance costing millions, says Government report
A report by the Risk and Regulation Advisory Council (RRAC) has labelled small business' understanding of the health and safety obligations as one full of "uncertainty" and "confusion".
It highlights the fact that many small firms struggle to carry out workplace assessments and apply common sense to the interpretation of health and safety law. It recommends that savings of between £70 - £140 million could be made if small firms have more confidence in their own health and safety practices and refrain from using unnecessary consultancy services.
