Legal expert warns of disputes over fit notes
A legal expert has warned that the Government's proposed fit note scheme to replace sick notes could lead to disputes between employers, their staff and GPs.
Sue Ashtiany, head of employment team at Nabarro LLP, told Personnel Today magazine that GPs will have to make decisions on the worker's fitness to return to work without knowing what their job actually involves. This could lead to conflict about changes to the workplace that will have to be made to accommodate partially-fit workers, claims Ms Ashtiany.
