Employers must advertise jobs to UK workers for longer
The Government has announced it will introduce a range of measures designed to ensure that UK residents are considered for job vacancies before the role is offered to someone from outside the EU.
The UK Border Agency, which is part of the Home Office, has said that from 2010 all jobs must be advertised to British workers in Jobcentres for four weeks instead of two, before a non EU-resident can be offered the post. The qualifying period for overseas workers will also be extended, so that workers at overseas branches of UK firms will have to work for the business for at least a year, rather than six months, before they can be transferred to the UK site.
