Don't criminalise patent infringement, CIPA urges Mandelson
The Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA) has urged Business Secretary Lord Mandelson not to make infringement of copyright a criminal offence.
The plea comes after inventor Trevor Baylis launched a campaign to persuade the Government to change the law. The CIPA argues that criminalising copyright infringement would "open up a hornets' nest of problems", which includes the possibility of business owners infringing patent rights unintentionally.
