VAT abolished on charity text donations
Charities will no longer have to pay VAT on donations sent via SMS text message, the Mobile Data Association (MDA) has announced.
The MDA has developed a code to be used in charitable text messages, which means that charities will receive an additional 15% for donations using this method. A spokesperson for the Institute of Fundraising said the change "is a giant step forward" but pointed out that mobile phone firms must now lower their charges to help charities.
