Third of small retailers see drop in bank lending
The British Retail Consortium's (BRC's) Quarterly Credit Conditions Monitor shows that a third of small and medium-sized retailers have seen a reduction in lending by the banks during the three months up to July.
Around 60% of those respondents to the survey who said lending had dropped reported they had to reduce staff levels. A further two-thirds said the lack of credit had affected their ability to trade effectively.
