Tax on workplace parking spaces 'likely to extend across UK'
A local authority's plans to charge residents for using workplace car parks could extend across the UK, according to the latest reports.
Nottingham City Council plans to introduce the Workplace Parking Levy from 2012. Businesses with 11 or more staff will be charged around £250 per year for each parking space they have, which could rise to £350 within two years. It has been introduced in a bid to raise money to combat congestion in the city centre. According to The Telegraph, local authorities in Milton Keynes, Exeter, Cambridge and Oxford have also expressed an interest in introducing the levy, as has the Core Cities Group, which represents cities like Birmingham, Manchester and Newcastle.
