Fit notes could compromise health and safety, says BMA
The Government's intention to swap sick notes for fit notes could backfire, according to the British Medical Association (BMA).
The BMA has issued a formal response to the consultation on fit notes, which warns that GPs do not have relevant experience to specify the conditions under which patients can return to work. A spokesperson told Pulse magazine that "GPs are not occupational health physicians" and called for these professionals to have a "greater role" in the scheme.
