Conservatives warn of tax threat to thousands of small businesses

Conservative ministers have warned that tax rises could drive thousands of small firms out of business.

According to the Conservatives, the Government's recent changes to business rate relief mean that taxation will increase by £100 million. This will affect 100,000 UK firms, most of which will be small businesses, they claim. Justine Greening, local government spokesperson for the Conservatives, said that the Government is helping to "drive [small firms] out of business". However, the Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) claimed that bills will actually fall "for the majority of organisations".
