Tribunal judge makes ruling on subcontractor status

An employment tribunal judge has ruled that a subcontractor was an employee of the firm he is seeking an unfair dismissal claim from.

Underground maintenance firm Alstom Transport argued that the worker was self-employed. However, a solicitor argued that the way the work was structured, the manner in which he worked and the tasks he performed on the firm's behalf meant he was an employee. There is speculation that the hearing could have a bearing on future cases of this nature.
