Small business tenants have "low awareness" of commercial property code
There is a low level of awareness among small business owners that there is a voluntary Code of Practice for leasing business premises in England and Wales.
Research by the University of Reading and the Department of Communities and Local Government suggests that small business tenants do not receive any information on the Code from professional advisers or landlords. It also shows that the Code is "rarely referred to" in negotiations and solicitors and larger tenants are the most likely to use it.
