HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is looking to triple the amount of tax it raises through Britain's landlords, according to a report in The Times.
It has proposed measures that will see letting agents forced to hand over details of all the landlords they have on their books, both previous and current. This would allow HMRC to check up on whether they have all paid tax on their rental income or on capital gains when they have sold a property. However, the Association of Residential Letting Agents (Arla) told the newspaper that this would "create a lot more work for agents in terms of their record-keeping".
