Fewer small firms cutting staff levels, research shows
Recent research has indicated that fewer small businesses are cutting staff levels and more firms appear to be optimistic that the recession has bottomed out.
According to the Quarterly Survey of Small Businesses in Britain, carried out by the Open University's Business School with Barclays Bank and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), 62% of those questioned said they had not changed staff levels over the past 12 months. Furthermore, a third of respondents who said they plan to expand reported increased sales over the past year.
