Energy efficiency clause omission sparks building industry anger

The Government has backed out of plans to introduce energy efficiency requirements on home extensions and major refurbishments, which has provoked anger in some parts of the construction sector.

Industry experts expected the consultation document on proposed changes to Part L of the Building Regulations to include proposals requiring homeowners to improve energy efficiency in their property when building extensions. However, no such measures are included. David Strong, chief executive of sustainability consultancy Inbuilt, told Building magazine that the decision "beggared belief".
