CBI proposes Alternative to Redundancy scheme
The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has proposed an 'Alternative to Redundancy' (ATR) scheme as part of a wider package of measures to reduce job losses.
The ATR scheme would enable businesses to either use existing redundancy measures or place employees on the ATR scheme for up to six months. While they would not work during this time, they would receive an allowance equal to twice the rate of Job Seekers Allowance, half of which would be paid by the Government and half by the employer. The employees could be taken back into work once the ATR period expires or the business improves.
