Government launches new Food and Environment Research Agency
A new Government department has been launched with the purpose of researching climate change, the environment and food.
The Food and Environment Research Agency (FERA) consolidates several divisions of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), including the Central Science Laboratory, Plant Health Division and Plant Health and Seeds Inspectorate. Defra claims the move will "significantly strengthen" its work on plant and crop protection and safety in the food chain.
