'Fit notes' could mean extra costs for employers
The replacement of sick notes with new 'fit notes' could mean extra costs for employers, according to a Government report.
The Reforming Medical Statement consultation, which was published by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), says that an employer could incur additional costs when accommodating an employee's early return to work. It says that there is "some potential for additional costs if workplace adjustments are required". However, the report also points out that overall the scheme should be beneficial to employers. The fit note scheme is expected to be rolled out in Britain in the spring of 2010.
