Number of insolvencies continues to rise

The number of insolvencies rose dramatically between 2008 and 2009, according to the latest figures from PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Analysis shows that 5,483 firms became insolvent during the first three months of 2009, which is a 57% increase on the same period in 2008. The sectors worst affected by insolvencies are construction, manufacturing and retail.
