UK copyright laws rated "worst" in survey

Copyright laws in the UK have been rated the worst in a survey of 16 countries.

The survey was carried out by Consumer International and investigated how well the copyright laws in 16 countries balanced the needs of both consumers and rights holders. It found that UK laws are considered the most out of date. Consumer group Consumer Focus is now calling for the Government to introduce a 'fair use' exception into UK copyright law, which has already been adopted in the USA, to allow exceptions to some copying activities, such as ripping a CD onto an iPod.
