Employment points-based system changes
Changes to the UK points-based system for employing foreign workers came into force on 31 March 2009.
The changes mean that Tier 2 jobs, which include a range of skilled roles, will need to be advertised in the UK before being offered to migrant workers. Occupations for which there is a shortage are exempt from the new rules. From 31 March, an employer wishing to sponsor a migrant to do a job in Tier 2 must have first advertised the job in Jobcentre Plus and advertised using one other method.
