Nearly half of firms believe Internet important for surviving recession

Nearly half of small firms believe the Internet will be the most important tool to help them survive the recession, according to a survey by Internet firm Easynet Connect.

The poll also revealed that many small businesses are using the Internet to cut costs. Almost three-quarters of respondents said they will use the web to boost the profile of their business, while 58% said they will use the Internet to break into new domestic and overseas markets. Chris Stening, managing director of Easynet Connect, said: "The critical difference between now and the recession of the early 90s is the Internet, which could easily be the most important tool in helping small businesses through the current downturn."
