The cost of registering a pan-European trade mark will drop by as much as 40% within the next few weeks, according to legal experts. The Trade Marks and Designs Registration Office for the EU said it will reduce the registration fee because of a budget surplus. This means that it will cost €1,050 to register a Community Trade Mark (CTM) by fax or paper or €900 through electronic filing. Lee Curtis, a trade mark attorney at Pinsent Masons, said: "I think what will happen is that a lot of people will say, even if they are only trading in one country, I might as well get an EU-wide registration now that it is so much cheaper than it was."
