Employment Act 2008 due to come into force
The Employment Act 2008 is due to come into force on 6 April in England, Wales and Scotland.
It covers changes to the regulations governing dispute resolution procedures and the enforcement of the National Minimum Wage (NMW). The Act will see the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas) launch a new Code of Practice and will repeal the existing statutory dispute resolution procedures. There will also be a new method for calculating NMW arrears, increased powers for officers enforcing the NMW and the Act will make offences triable in the Crown court or Magistrates' court. In Northern Ireland the legislation differs.
