A multi-billion pound funding packing, to encourage banks to start lending to small businesses, will be announced by the Government in January 2009. Among the measures being considered by Chancellor Alistair Darling is the implementation of a national lending scheme, which would see the Government cover up to 80% of the risk on loans to small businesses.
