Scaffolding put roofers at risk, says HSE
A roofing firm in Stafford has been fined after using unsafe scaffolding.
Roofers had adapted the scaffolding to enable them to pass tiles down by hand and stack them on a pallet. The structure was spotted by inspectors from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), who were out on their lunch break.
The HSE said the workers had modified the scaffolding but were not trained scaffolders and the structure was unsafe. The roofers were ordered to stop working on the site. The firm responsible for the workers was ordered to pay £2,000 in fines and £1,160 in costs for breaching the Work at Height Regulations 2005, as reported by Safety and Health Practitioner Online.
