Retail sales drop for sixth consecutive month in September
Figures from a retail body have revealed that sales in the sector fell for the sixth month in a row during September.
The latest Retail Sales Monitor from the British Retail Consortium (BRC) and researchers KPMG shows that UK sales fell by 1.5% compared to September 2007 figures and are now in the worst shape since summer 2005.
Clothing and footwear sales performed poorly, as did furniture and homeware, despite continuing promotional activity. However, food and drink is the only sector to show significantly increased sales compared to last year.
