Get basics right or risk stifling innovation, cities told
Cities must focus on getting the basics right in order to best help innovative businesses.
That message comes from a report by think-tank Centre For Cities, which says that the public sector is focusing too narrowly on innovation in science and technology and has created overlapping support services.
The report says the best way to support innovation is to make a "city as a whole a more attractive place to do business". It blames poor transport links, slow planning and high house prices for stifling innovation in some cities.
