Commercial buildings flattened to avoid empty property tax

Commercial landlords are knocking down buildings in a bid to avoid paying the Government's levy on empty property.

The levy has been introduced as a means of taxing landlords who keep premises empty in hope of better rents. Regeneration projects have also suffered as developers put off completing projects for fear of being taxed on their empty property, as reported by the BBC.
