Pub owners support the smoking ban

Around two thirds of publicans are in favour of the smoking ban one year on from its implementation in July 2007, according to a survey by trade magazine The Publican.

The support for the ban has grown despite many publicans reporting a drop in trade. Some 48% of respondents said they strongly supported the ban and had experienced an increase in food sales since the ban took effect.

Although over half reported a drop in trade, they blamed the credit crunch and not the smoking ban. One in three pubs have gained new customers since the ban, as reported by Ananova.
